A cabal of former US diplomats, apparently funded by opposition leader Khaleda Zia’s Ex-Assistant Press Secretary Mushfuqul Fazal Ansari, reportedly indulged in a wave of a disinformation campaign against the Sheikh Hasina-led government ahead of the upcoming election.
Ambassador William B Millam, a former US Diplomat, long known for his one-sided and partisan views in favour of BNP, and Jon Danilowicz – a retired Department of State Senior Foreign Service Officer, posted in US Embassy Dhaka twice are some faces of the cabal leading the smear campaign from the front.
While Mushfiqul Fazal Ansari ceaselessly has long been peddling false narratives about Bangladesh Govt, especially in the US, on behalf of BNP, he recently launched an opinion-based monthly d magazine to bring under payroll these diplomats, one appointed as Editor and the other as Editor at Large.
Bangladeshi netizens became annoyed after such a deliberate act to “mislead policymakers”.
How can US diplomats become advocates for a party now led by a fugitive acting chief Tarique Rahman already dubbed as a “symbol of violent politics” and regarded as a threat to US interests for colluding with militants and indulging in rampant corruption?
“We know money can buy allegiance but the brazen defence of doesn’t make US foreign policy a joke and driven by money a former diplomat can take a stance for Tarique and beg for sanction against the current government.
